A special edition Triumph Bonneville, previously owned by Brad Pitt, will go under the auctioneer’s hammer this weekend. It is being auctioned at the MCN (Motorcycle News) London Motorcycle Show.
The bike was given to Brad Pitt as a birthday present by the producer of “Ocean’s Eleven”, Jerry Weintaub, and was only used once by its previous owner.
The Triumph Bonneville Bud Ekins Desert Scrambler Special is one of only three models made to celebrate the life of Steve McQueen’s former stunt double, and is estimated to fetch between £20,000 and £30,000 at auction. Bud Ekins was the stunt man who did the famous 65 foot jump over a barbed wire barrier in “The Great Escape”. That stunt earned him a place in the Stuntman’s Hall of Fame.
Bud Ekins was also a successful off-road motorcycle racer. He died in Los Angeles in 2007, aged seventy-seven. The bike is said to be in good all-round condition, still has the specially engraved fuel filler cap, and carries the orginal number plates from when Brad Pitt owned it.
So, if you’re in the area, have a spare bit of cash, and want to own a real piece of motorcycling history, head down to the MCN London Motorcycle Show. Let them know I sent you!
