One of the more interesting things to come from the Tokyo Motor Show this week goes by the name of “MotoBot”. MotoBot is an autonomous robot being developed by Yamaha, that rides motorcycles.
Details were, of course, scant, but the bionic biker certainly caused a stir by issuing a veiled challenge to Italian MotoGP champion Valentino Rossi. “I was created to surpass you,” was the message delivered in a chilling child-like computer voice. “I am improving my skills every day.”
The video shows Motobot riding around what appears to be an abandoned airfield. Yamaha’s current goal is for Motobot to be able to ride an unmodified motorcycle on a race track at more than 200 kilometers per hour. However, Motobot may need to lose the training wheels before the challenge to Rossi is taken seriously.
